Why Update Components?

Keeping components up to date offers the following benefits:

• Support for the latest versions of external resources (icons, code-based components, etc.)

For example, when Phosphor Icons update to version 2.1, you can't use new icons in components that haven't been updated. This is directly linked to the quality of real work, so it's best to update them regularly.

How to Update Components

The process of updating components in Framer is very simple.

1. Open the Assets panel.

2. Click the purple Update button next to the component name.

3. It takes a few seconds for the update to complete, and a toast notification saying “Component has been updated.” will appear at the bottom right of the screen.

Once the toast message appears, you can confirm that the component has been updated to the latest version.

Q. Does an update apply even if I detach a component?

• No, detaching a component creates an instance, breaking its connection with the original, so future updates won't apply to that instance.

Q. Will updating reset component properties?

• No, most Overrides and style modifications will remain. However, if the structure of the original or the elements used change significantly, some properties may change.

Q. If the Update button doesn't appear, does that mean the component is the latest version?

• Yes, if the components and library source versions used in the current project are the same, the Update button won't appear.
